Purusha Research Cooperatives is a platform to provide places for the needs and interests of those who (still) sees the importance of cognitive works such as research, study, thinking and journalism in the endeavors to achieve a meaningful transformation of our existing socioeconomic order, towards one that does not require inequality and exploitation of the have-nots by the haves. As for these guys, with the absence of experimental works in the realm of cognition, there will be no novelty in our way of seeing and imagining a profound transformation of the social order. That is why our motto in Purusha Research Cooperatives is: “scientific, experimental, transformative.”

As a co-ops, Purusha has for its orientation activities of knowledge production, be it popular or academically rigor. Nonetheless, another productive activities are also supported by the co-ops in its effort to endorse and provide spaces for members’ initiatives and endeavors, but also at once as an effort to slowly-but-surely cooperativize as many aspects of life as possible. Starting from daily basic needs, all the way to the needs of knowledge, information, health, technology, art, entertainment, hobby, socialization, etc., in a common collectivity. The more we succeed in propagating the cool ideas of co-ops, the bigger the interconnected networks of co-ops, and the wider and deeper the coverage of life’s dimensions being cooperativized. Thus our slogan: towards a global outbreak of cooperativism!

We fully aware that a co-ops would only be effective if it’s members share some relative similarities. The most important ones being: the needs, interests and socioeconomic context where they live. It will become ineffective should a co-ops does not have among its members compatibility of perception of needs and articulation of interests due to the differences in their living context. That is why Purusha Research Cooperatives aims at providing space for young folks, generally categorized as millennials or Y generation, who share a need for and interest in social transformation by way of cognitive and scientific works, and also who grow and live in the present context of 21st century late urbanization and metropolitanization.

Research and Life

Researcher, in our sense of the word, does not simply refer to people who has formal and professional occupation as researcher. It does not always have to imply an academic and university tenurial position also. For us, researcher is not only a predicate, it also an attitude, a way of life. Researcher is an attitude that would never accept things just the way they are, or the way we are told that they are. Research is an act of reexamining phenomena, ideas, convictions, facts, normalcies, and array of things most people take for granted. Since an unexamined life is not worth living, as Socrates preaches us, so an act of reexamining through research is one that is larger than life itself. Researchers have the potentiality, not only to live out the life, but more importantly to outlive the life itself. Research is then become a powerful means to probe another life, that is another life worthier to live.

This latter redesignation of what a researcher is, will imply to a conclusion that everyone is potentially a researcher. Insofar he/she, in his/her own unique way, try to seriously think up a worthier life to live, and experimenting on its realization, then he/she is a researcher. A researcher is then characterized by a thinking activity that is framed in a immersed engagement with the life itself, not only to simply befit in it, but most importantly to make it worth living. One does not have to be an academic, dweller of university’s ivory tower, or working on an esoteric research institute to be a researcher. But once once one sees that something is wrong with this life, the moment one begins thinking upon this seriously for the sake of transforming it into one that is worthier of living, then he/she becomes a researcher.
